Buddakan, the most recent import from Zagat New York's Restaurateur of the Year Stephen Starr, is located near New York City's fashionable Meatpacking District at 75 Ninth Avenue (at 16th Street).
Renowned designer Christian Liaigre's stunning 16,000-square foot interior provides a dramatic stage for both memorable dinners and unparalleled special events. Buddha icons hang next to Louis XIV curiosity cabinets, while porcelain vase-shaped doorways and traditional Chinese screen windows frame a 35-foot ceiling with hand-carved wooden chandeliers. As for the cuisine, Buddakan marries seamlessly classic Asian and Parisian influences. Executive Chef Michael Schulson's menu integrates classic techniques with contemporary ingredients. Influences from Bangkok to Beijing can be tasted in his signature dishes, including edamame dumplings in a caramelized shallot-Sauternes broth, Peking duck with cucumber, scallions and hoisin sauce, and glazed black cod garnished with a savory black bean relish and chili eggplant.
